Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)

The Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law in Canada came into effect in June 2016. This law provides eligible individuals with the option to choose MAID as a means of ending their life with the assistance of a medical professional. The eligibility criteria for MAID are outlined in the Canadian Criminal Code and include a requirement that the individual has a “grievous and irremediable medical condition” that causes enduring and intolerable suffering.

Our team of lawyers can assist with the legal aspects of MAID, including navigating the eligibility criteria, preparing and reviewing documentation, and ensuring that the process is completed in accordance with the law. We understand that this is a difficult and emotional decision for many individuals and families, and we approach each case with sensitivity and compassion.
